Personal Branding: The small steps that make you BIG
Waiting for the BIG career break? Don't Wait! MAKE IT HAPPEN!
This is not negative connotation intended to demotivate or demoralize you! What I want to say is that we keep waiting for the right opportunities to find the right directions and knock our doors at the right time.
But seriously the question is 'How long can you keep waiting?' ETERNITY is definitely not the answer.
Is there an alternative to patient waiting? Fortunately, there is!
Instead of waiting things for you to happen; make things happen to you. The million dollar question here is how to make things happen?
With tough competition, uncertainty, and fast pace of changes, how can you make opportunities come to you?
So here I present THE SMALL STEPS TO MAKE YOU BIG:
- Determine the Parameters: The collection of attributes that you want to be known for. Base yourself on a few and distinct pillars so that it is easier to connect and remember. Be honest with this and try making it as specific as possible.
- Prioritize:It’s easier for people to keep in mind one thing than several things. It’s easier for people to focus on doing one thing than doing a lot of things. Too many options lead to confusion and even inaction. So just focus on 4-5 qualities and organize them in an order of preference.
- Organize into 'ELEVATOR STATEMENT': The presentation and communication of the facts should be done in a manner that the real gist is delivered. This can be worked through by recording yourself, taking notes, and distilling it into an elevator statement of sorts.
- Alignment: Now is the time to configure your online identity with the new 'elevator statement'. Your online image highly influences how others perceive you, so make a quick audit of your online profiles and start acclimatizing stuff so they pictograph the elements of your personal brand.
- Solidify your online identity: If you really want to strengthen your brand online, creating a personal website is the best idea to practice. Its better to build your website on a domain based on your name in the strongest sense of personal branding. If your name is John Mathews, buy www.johnmathews.com, .net, or .org. The site should be simple yet highly communicative about your strengths and positives.
- Breathe your personal brand: A personal brand is more than just presenting yourself to the world or marketing yourself. Spend your time emphasizing the elements of your personal brand in your life.
Make life purposeful, big, market yourself well and you never need WAITING then!!
