FIRST 30 DAYS

After all those grilling interviews and psychometric tests, you finally snagged the job. And on the first day when you step inside with gratification and head held high, you get that isolated and disconnected feeling. With all the new faces, new workonment (work+environment), all you seek is that amiable look on someone’s face. However, we have all faced this at one point of our career, but there is a lot that both you and the HR do to help the situation.

It is advisable to assign a HIRE-PAL, who can help the new joinee with his basic queries which may not be work-related. The HIRE-PAL should be one who the new joinee can easily relate to, not necessarily the person to whom the employee has to report to.  Ensure the thorough communication of company policies and work processes to the employee. Many companies today provide the new hires with onboarding plans on the joining day and they are detailed about their initial days at place of work.
While appointing a HIRE-PAL, make sure the person is positive, willing and passionate about it. The new employee can also make initiatives from his own end, to ask for company profile, employment policies, and its pattern of working from the colleagues. To make the integration process smoother, the HR can arrange for welcome kits, organize informal meetings with manager or the supervisor.

These small measures can ensure an easy association of the new employee with the company, thus creating an image of employee-friendly organization, attracting the best talent to work with.
