By now, we have all heard praises and GAGA about
this super hit mythological epic-BAHUBALI, which is about an individual getting
to know about his father, his rule on a kingdom and the stories of spirit and
courage. The saga has been depicted beautifully on the screen portraying a
number of leadership skills and attributes to the ‘viewer with a corporate
eye.’
Here are 5 implications we can refer to for:
1.
Curiosity:
The actor as Shiva, was curious from his childhood to figure out what was
beyond that beautiful and alluring waterfalls. His inquisitiveness and the
quest to explore remained unswerving from day 1, in spite of his mother’s
continuous requests, reminders, and admonishments. Curiosity is a prerequisite
for growth. According to a research maintaining a Curiosity
Quotient (CQ) can yield wonderful benefits in the areas of health, deeper
meaning/purpose in life consciousness, social relationship and happiness
levels. It undoubtedly also contributes to business success. The business
scenario is multifaceted, volatile and erratic. To survive and succeed, it is
quintessential to approach situations and opportunities with spanking new
vision and an inquisitorial spirit. Rod Kurtz,a
successful editor and now a consultant , at a guest lecturer at Wharton, said, “Insatiable curiosity is a key to great
leadership.” Curiosity braces and enhances other critical leadership
competencies, and it drives bottom-line business consequences.
2.
Consistency:
Shiva in the movie, showed consistent efforts to climb the mountain, and go
beyond it. He had failed more than 100 times since his childhood, but his
steady firm determination, finally made its way through that gigantic rock. You
customarily act as a role-model for your team, thus it is crucial to keep in
mind that consistency in your role as a leader, will define how they will act
and behave. For instance, if you treat meetings as non-significant, don’t be in
awe, if your team members do the same. Consistency
is not a conception; it’s a personal discipline. In Jim Rohn’s words:
“Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying basic fundamentals.”
3.
Innovative
Approach: When the Maheshmati kingdom is in a situation of
war and both the brothers are put to test for their valour and intelligence,
the administration comes to an update that they have limited weapons that had
been already taken by Bhallaldeva (the cousin brother), Bahubali then comes
with an innovative approach to handle the adverse situation optimally and
inventively. In a rapidly changing,
versatile and kaleidoscopic market it is pragmatic to develop and implement an
organizational culture of innovation for success. Innovation
and workplace revolution are like two-sides of a coin. As Steve Jobs believed,
innovation done rightly has the power to change a workplace, an industry, a
country, and the world.
4.
Positive
thinking: The heroic character Bahubali displays various
instances where he depicts positive thinking and how it can create a winning
outcome. The greatest known truth is “You become
what you think the most” and the chief quality of great leaders is that they are optimistic and contemplate how to extract
the best out of a situation. They have an ability to see opportunities and
possibilities in every situation, positive or negative. They are not afraid of “failures;”
but claim them as “learning experiences which provide valuable lessons in the
journey.” Leaders are initiators and bring in the positive vibes in a group,
they make sure that enthusiasm is contagious, and it is injected as energy into
a group, team or organization for growth.
5.
Motivation: During
the time of war, Bahubali acts as a great motivator, and boosts his troop to
fight back and create a victorious history. In words of Norman Augustine
“Motivation will almost always beat mere talent.” Motivation is often
underrated and treated more like a cliché these days, but one should remember
it is like that TRUMP card, which will always workout when nothing else does. In
fact, a non- motivated workforce leads to an unstable and poor organization
structure. At such a juncture, there are only two possible outcomes:
deterioration or patch up the motivational issues among the employees. Eventually,
one of them will prevail! Motivation is that fuel that keeps
the organization engine moving smoothly and acts as a lucrative damper in
situations of jerks and potholes.
