'Natasha settled in her comfortable
couch, with her sweetheart daughter tucked right beside her asleep, and sipping
her green tea was on cloud nine. She has just pulled off a great meeting on a
video-call, and grabbed that work deal'
The professional scenario
was different in the 90's, where males held the higher percentage of the working
population and females worked more up till, domestic responsibilities took
charge.
Over the time
professional landscape has evolved, women participation has increased and gramercy
to the option of work from home, they can continue to nail it in the corporate
world.
Working from home has its
own perks: flexibility, schedule-management, giving time to kids and family, no
more long commutes and traffic hours, autonomous working. However, with many
perks, work from home comes with a pack of commotion. With change in
work-settings to sustaining concentration to managing role plays, it's a
backbreaker to be efficient and productive.
Below are a few ideas to
help you slay when working from home!
1.
Develop
the work-space: Setting up a work-station is crucial for the success of a
'work-from-home' employee. Get the necessary equipments needed to function, decorate
your work place aesthetically but make sure its not all that pink stuff or
GOT abberated themed. Establishing a work-schedule
is climacteric for productivity, maintain regular schedule hours, as it helps
to be more efficient. It is imperative to fix work-hours, and break-hours.
Don't get trapped into the quicksand of over-working and burning out, end your
day just in time.
2.
Dress
to perform and perfect: Get up sunshine, shower and get
dressed for work. Do not differentiate between dressing for work at office or
home. That tee-shirt and sweatpants are definitely easy-breezy, but they will
make you sluggish and de-motivated.
Dressing up activates your brain and signals that its work time, and you
are ready to execute with zeal. Bonus point: you also get a sneaky opportunity
to experiment new work-wear styles.
3.
Work
on role-goals : Write down your goals according to your role in life: personal and
professional and post them at your desk. One often gets caught up in routine
tasks and the focus drifts to checking off items in the to-do list. Writing and
posting role-goals, allows you to look at them every day and it ensures that
you remember the preponderant reason behind why you started
what you started. It will help to evaluate your progress on track, and re-route
yourself if needed.
4. 5-minute rule to organizing: I use the 5-minute
rule to quick organizing my day. Give yourself 5-minutes every two hours of
your official work hours to scan and revert to your urgent emails, grab that
energy bar, make that 'do-take-your-vitamins' reminder call, so anything that
does not take more than five minutes. It puts your 'work-stressed' brain at
ease, gives that little happy jolt and motivates you to get back on the task
with better focus.
5. Manage flipping lids and frenzies : It is imperative to
manage distractions be it posting that date night picture, or popping girl
friends for advice on how to get that scrumptious chicken gravy. Be assertive
and stick to the work schedule, you wouldn't let your attention waiver off
would you have been in office right! Online distractions can be managed with
the help of various restrictive apps and settings on the browser.
These simple hacks will
help you get the most of your productive self. So go girl, do a bang-up job!
