How to love the work you don't love

In the last blog post, I talked about how there is a fauxspiration of overnight success around us, and how we get into the tendency of drifting towards short cuts and disco ball syndrome.

But the truth is nothing comes overnight- not even failure. Even if you want to fail at something, you will have to act on that particular task.

And many a times we are caught up with tasks, projects, even jobs that are draggy and slack.

And quitting is generally the most UNAVAILABLE OPTIONS.

What do you do then? You SUCK IT UP and try to love them- cuz that's what the DOERS DO.

Below are 3 simple ways to love the shit you hate:

  • Focus on the frosting: Try to focus the nice things about that task, the part that you love- like the team mates, or the associated reward or the learning opportunity. This will give you the strength to keep going.
  • Make modifications: Even minor changes like experimenting with work setting or taking up an additional challenge or working on a new software, can break the monotony and help you be more excited about the task, broadening your perspective.
  • Find a motivator: Find a source of motivation- it could be in the form of a mentor at job or outside, or a positive image to inspire you like imagine being in Mykonos by the beach or a happy material thing- like a plant in your cubicle.
These seem basic, but they are terrifically effective if you implement them with a whole heart.

And the most significant factor to get you to eat your shit...is remember WHY you started in the first place. TRACE OUT THE WHY.

Don't QUIT...EAT the shit, and come out as the CHAMPION!
