MANAGING E.T.A: WHY ?

Energy and persistence conquer all things. Benjamin Franklin

Merlin Brett, a respected 35 year old, worked at one of the Big 4- Deloitte, is a married man with three young children. After his last two promotional stints, his usual day includes working 12-14 hours a day, and often visiting office on the weekends as well. Merlin, is often by end of the day, battles with exhaustion, guilt and dissatisfaction- as he is left with no energy and time for his family or personal life. His quality of life is poor- devoid of any exercise, lack of proper sleep, and unhealthy eating habits, as he is always on a run.

Merlin's experience is not an uncommon story. Many of us live this life owing to increasing pressure at workplace or pushing ourselves to be competitive to outgrow. This tendency, ultimately takes a toll on our health mentally, physically and emotionally.

Our last week's posts were about how to deal with procrastination in real time and boost daily productivity. A lot of us are good at managing our schedules- the hustle, the priorities and the responsibilities, but fail to manage our energies and attention effectively and by EOD we are left drained and crippled.

Another tendency of human behaviour is that we feel energised and empowered when we spend time with people we like and the kind of work we enjoy doing. On the other hand, time seems draggy when we are working on a stressful task or with an annoying colleague.

The cue here is to manage one's E.T.A: energy, time and attention to max out the work and minimise the bloopers.  When we learn to align our energy, time and attention in the right manner, it can enhance the performance up to 100 percent, whether it is bringing out a unique idea in a team meeting or working on that critical assignment. The idea is when we discover how to tap our natural  flow movements, along with the routines and task that energise us, then we can amplify our productivity, focus and efficiency.

High Performance = Energy x Time x Attention

In the next post, we will be discussing how to manage our E.T.A so as to amplify our performance, productivity and potency.
