Doing the DREAMLINING

Etymology: Blend of dream and streamlining, coined by Timothy Ferriss.
Though an old idea, but I have been wanting to talk about this interesting concept since a while.

Dreamlining is a process coined by Tim Ferriss as a way to turn your big dreams, goals, and desires into a well defined action plan that can help you achieve those goals within the next 6 to 12 months.

Dreamlining is not goal setting. There is a difference between the two concepts.

According to the 4HW book, there are three major differences:

  1. Dreamlining helps to align your goals from the ambiguous “I’d like to …” to a structured step by step process.
  1. Having unrealistic goals is a prime condition .
  1. Dreamlining focuses on living a life and filling your time when the concept of WORK to EARN a living is removed.
To begin the implementation of dreamlining, one needs to define the dreams in three categories:

  • having
  • being
  • doing

Once you have listed your dreams, you need to prioritise and select the most important/exciting/unrealistic dreams. Once that is done, you will need to estimate the cost to realise each dream within a set timeline. The next step is to develop a plan of action starting now, going to tomorrow and the day after. That’s it.
So if you want to be a great writer, start with some writing lessons, working as a freelancer or take up a writing course.
