Self Awareness: Lead with EQ

Another crucial factor that counts for an individual's self awareness is emotional quotient i.e. EQ.

Handling a difficult communication, dealing with stress, or facing a challenging situation are common scenarios in life that we often face in work and life. All such situations fall under the category of Emotional Quotient.

Hence it becomes inevitable to have strong understanding of self, and emotional intelligence, in order to deal with circumstances better.

This quiz by HBR on emotional intelligence is one fun way to develop deeper understanding of self on the scale of emotional quotient.

It tests an individual on 5 parameters: emotional self awareness, emotional self control, positive perspective,  adaptability, and empathy, and helps you compare your ratings with the average.

This helps you to determine your strengths and weak points on the scale. More often than not, we get disappointed by our weaknesses and lose the essence of our strengths.

A wise idea is to develop a short-long term working on self development. This can be done by taking a short term course to bank on your strengths and to look in to ideas to develop them- as this will be a less time consuming process because you already stand higher on the scale. And eventually pick up the weaker points and put in more time, considering it a long-term process of self investment and development.
